To set up my stations, I have the bags set out with materials in each bag for the students. The materials relate to the concept being taught or reinforced. Each time the students complete the station, I'll take the materials out and put in another activity for students to do.
I will also be incorporating a technology station. We have 4 computers in class rooms, so mine will be called the 'computer station' and I will also have a 'Journal Station'. The students math journals will be for math work, writing about math problems, showing work, and more while their interactive notebook is for notes and reference.
Having my stations already labeled, will assist with station assignments. Below is a photo of how I set up my station rotation on the board. This makes it easier to keep the station names and rotation list the same and just change out the actual activity in each station. If you notice I color coded the cards on the board so the students and I can learn the station color and name they go to and on which day.
Below the 'Station Rotations' I label the stations again and what students are to do in each station along with the materials they will need in that station.
As you can see in the photo above my students are sitting in teams with team names. This assists with setting up my station rotations and more.
I have extra station grab bags I created so I can place future stations in them and rotate them out when needed, use them in whole lessons, or replace ones that may get torn or rip throughout the year. When I use them in whole lessons, I do not inform students what the activity is inside the bag, I like it when they discover what it is which all students I've taught seem to enjoy greatly.
If you use the bags for future stations - Remember to change the name of the station on the board also. If it is an activity to large for the bag, I still place the directions for the station in the bag along with materials needed such as crayons, or glue, then place the bag on top of the materials in a basket or bin so they are all together. Below are all of the station bags I created this year. Please feel free to share how you set up math stations.
